U.S. keeps Aruba at safest travel advisory level

ORANJESTAD – Aruba has received positive news in the latest travel advisory from the U.S. State Department. The island remains at Level 1: “Exercise Normal Precautions,” the lowest and least severe level in the U.S. travel advisory system.

The updated advisory took effect on August 20, 2026, confirming that U.S. authorities continue to regard Aruba as a destination where travelers can visit while taking normal precautions.

The update does include new guidance on petty crime and armed robbery. According to the State Department, crimes against visitors are generally crimes of opportunity, such as theft of unsecured belongings or vehicle break-ins, particularly in popular tourist areas.

At the same time, the advisory notes that crime rates in Aruba are low, although armed robberies can occur at businesses that handle large amounts of cash or are associated with drug or gang activity.

Travelers are also warned that bringing firearms, ammunition, shells or casings into Aruba without special authorization is illegal and can lead to arrest and imprisonment.

For Aruba, maintaining a Level 1 advisory is positive news for tourism, as it keeps the island at the most favorable level possible in the U.S. travel warning system while reminding visitors to follow basic safety precautions.
