ORANJESTAD – Business confidence in Aruba’s economy increased in the second quarter of 2026, but the construction sector stands out as a major exception. Its confidence index fell from 110 to 97, below the neutral level of 100.
According to the Central Bank of Aruba’s latest Business Perception Survey, the overall business index rose from just over 104 to nearly 108. None of the surveyed companies now expect the economy to contract over the next 12 months, while almost 44% anticipate growth.
Businesses also reported stronger sales, profits and employment. More than 92% reported a profit, nearly 70% saw profits increase, and almost three-quarters reported higher sales. About 54% increased their workforce.
Construction, however, showed a sharp deterioration. Both its assessment of current conditions and short-term expectations fell to around 97. The Central Bank did not provide an explanation for the decline.
Some caution is also visible in investment plans. While nearly three-quarters of companies intend to invest over the next year, the share planning investments above Afl. 5 million fell from more than 31% to just over 20%.
