ATA and University of Aruba join forces on Small Island Studies
ORANJESTAD – The Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA) and the University of Aruba (UA) have signed a strategic agreement aimed at strengthening education, research and sustainable development, with a particular focus on a multidisciplinary Small Island Studies program.
The agreement, signed on Thursday, August 13 by ATA CEO Ronella Croes and UA President Curator Juri Nicolaas, will support the development of courses and certifications addressing the specific opportunities and challenges faced by small islands such as Aruba.
The program, which will operate through the university’s Center for Lifelong Learning (CLL), will cover subjects including innovation, entrepreneurship, resilience, digital transformation and good governance. It will combine academic education with applied research and practical projects connected to Aruba’s community and economy.
The initiative also aims to position Aruba as a regional knowledge hub for Small Island Developing States (SIDS), encouraging research, exchange of expertise and regional cooperation.
According to ATA, the investment supports its goal of developing local talent and preparing a workforce capable of contributing to a more responsible and sustainable visitor economy. The University of Aruba sees the initiative as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between academia, government, the private sector and the community.
Through the agreement, both organizations aim to invest in knowledge and local talent while preparing a new generation of professionals and leaders for Aruba’s future challenges.
