ORANJESTAD - Infrastructure Minister Rene Herdé sees the renovation of the former gas station in downtown Oranjestad as part of a broader vision to create the conditions needed for economic development and investment.
According to Herdé, the government’s role is to establish the necessary infrastructure and facilities that allow both public and private initiatives to move forward. The minister acknowledged that major projects require time, coordination and compliance with legal procedures, but said the government is working to speed up these processes.
The former gas station project forms part of the wider revitalization of downtown Oranjestad, together with the restoration of Fort Zoutman and the Willem III Tower, the renovation of Wilhelminastraat and the expansion of Parliament. The goal is to create a more attractive city center while strengthening economic activity, heritage and investment.
