Cuida Aruba returns August 28 and 29 for cleanup and prevention

ORANJESTAD – The Government of Aruba will organize the second edition of Cuida Aruba on August 28 and 29, bringing together the community, private sector and various public institutions. The national initiative will focus on cleanup, volunteer work and preparations for the rainy season.

Prime Minister Mike Eman said the initiative goes beyond a simple cleanup campaign. Its aim is to strengthen community responsibility, reduce the risk of flooding and help prevent health problems such as dengue by removing waste and objects that can collect standing water.

Friday, August 28, will focus mainly on volunteer activities involving businesses, hotels, schools, sports clubs, scouting groups and social organizations. On Saturday, August 29, residents will be encouraged to clean their homes, neighborhoods and surrounding areas and make use of designated collection points.

Serlimar will deploy additional personnel and waste containers, while DOW will provide heavy machinery to clean drainage channels, roadsides and other areas. CMO, CEDE Aruba, Bureau City Inspector, Ecotech and other partners will also participate in coordinating the operation.

Government is asking residents to separate their waste before bringing it to the collection points to make transportation and processing more efficient.

Eman called on schools, businesses, foundations, neighborhood organizations and individual citizens to participate, stressing that Cuida Aruba should become an ongoing commitment rather than merely a two-day event.
