AVP faction congratulates Mike de Meza on renewed ministerial eligibility

ORANJESTAD – The AVP parliamentary faction reacted Tuesday evening with satisfaction to the news that MP Mike de Meza is once again eligible for ministerial office, following the announced agreement between De Meza and the Public Prosecutor’s Office concerning his tax-related case.

In a statement, the AVP faction congratulated De Meza and his team and highlighted the way in which, according to the party, he dealt with a difficult period.

“During a difficult period, Mike remained steadfast, with calm, perseverance and confidence,” the faction said.

The AVP described De Meza as an experienced and capable politician and stressed his commitment to Aruba, particularly to San Nicolas.

“Mike is a politician with experience, ability and a deep love for Aruba. His commitment to San Nicolas and to our entire country has always been evident,” the statement said.

The faction also addressed a personal message to its parliamentary colleague: “Mikey, we are proud of your perseverance. And we believe in you!”

The reaction follows De Meza’s announcement earlier Tuesday that he had reached an agreement with the Public Prosecutor’s Office to pay Afl. 2,500 as a settlement, without admitting guilt. According to the explanation provided by De Meza and his lawyers, the resolution removes the obstacle that had prevented him from clearing the screening required for a possible ministerial appointment.

The AVP faction concluded its statement with the message: “Together we continue working for a stronger Aruba.”
