BOGOTA – Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella has announced his administration’s first operational results against illegal armed groups, just two days after taking office. Six members of different armed organizations were killed in operations in Meta and Antioquia.
The main operation took place in Mapiripan, Meta, where security forces killed alias Ruso or Aleman, a commander of Front 28 of the FARC dissidents led by alias Ivan Mordisco. Three other members of the group were also killed.
In Anori, Antioquia, two members of the Clan del Golfo were killed in combat, including one commander. Authorities seized six rifles and a substantial quantity of military equipment. Four suspected members of the Clan del Golfo were also arrested in Necocli.
De la Espriella presented the operations as an early signal that confronting illegal armed groups and restoring security will be central priorities of his government.
