ORANJESTAD – A fisherman was safely rescued Saturday evening after falling overboard near the Valero area, thanks to a swift response by the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard and the assistance of fellow fishermen.

Shortly after sunset, the Coast Guard's Maritime Operations Centre received an emergency report after the fisherman managed to call his wife to say he needed help. She immediately alerted the authorities, triggering a rescue operation.

A Metal Shark patrol boat was dispatched to the area, while a Coast Guard helicopter joined the search from the air.

Rescue crews found the fisherman holding onto a buoy until help arrived. Two nearby fishing boats assisted by pulling him from the water and transporting him safely to shore.

On land, officers of the Aruba Police Force (KPA) and ambulance personnel examined the fisherman, who was found to be in good condition and had not suffered serious injuries.

Other fishermen also helped recover the victim's boat and bring it safely back to shore.
