Aruban and Curaçao baseball player face each other at home plate in the Major Leagues

BOSTON – Wednesday night's Major League Baseball matchup between the Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox featured a special Caribbean connection. Aruba's Chadwick Tromp was behind the plate as Baltimore's catcher, while Curaçao's Ceddanne Rafaela patrolled center field and batted for Boston. During the game, the two Kingdom players faced each other several times at home plate, with Tromp receiving pitches and Rafaela stepping into the batter's box.

The matchup highlighted two of the Caribbean's top baseball talents competing on baseball's biggest stage, a rare moment that drew attention in both Aruba and Curaçao.

The game was part of a doubleheader at Fenway Park after Tuesday's contest was postponed because of bad weather. In the first game, Boston defeated Baltimore 6-3, with Rafaela contributing a home run as the Red Sox matched the franchise record with their 15th consecutive victory.

Baltimore responded in the second game with a 5-1 victory, ending Boston's winning streak. The Orioles scored four runs in the first inning, while starting pitcher Kyle Bradish threw six strong innings before the bullpen closed out the win.

Beyond the final scores, the sight of Chadwick Tromp from Aruba and Ceddanne Rafaela from Curaçao competing against one another on the same Major League field was a proud moment for the Dutch Caribbean and another reminder of the region's ability to produce world-class baseball talent.
