Heavy holiday traffic expected across Europe

EUROPE – With all regions of the Netherlands now on summer vacation, traffic authorities are warning of one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. The heaviest congestion is expected on major highways in Germany, France, Austria, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom as millions of holidaymakers head to their destinations.

The Netherlands may also experience heavier traffic today as vacation departures coincide with regular commuter traffic. German border checks and the start of school holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia are expected to worsen delays, while France, Austria, Italy and the UK are also preparing for long traffic jams throughout the weekend.
