ATLANTA – Argentina produced a stunning late comeback to defeat England 2-1 in the World Cup semifinal, scoring twice in the closing minutes to secure a place in the final.

After a tightly contested and scoreless first half, England took the lead in the 55th minute. Declan Rice started the move before Morgan Rogers provided the assist for Anthony Gordon, who finished calmly to make it 1-0.

Argentina dominated the remainder of the match, forcing England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford into a series of outstanding saves against Julián Álvarez, Alexis Mac Allister and Nico González. Mac Allister also struck the post as England struggled to hold onto its advantage.

The equalizer finally came in the 85th minute when Enzo Fernández fired home from outside the penalty area following a short corner routine created by Lionel Messi.

With extra time approaching, Argentina completed the comeback in stoppage time. Messi recovered possession before delivering a precise cross into the box, where substitute Lautaro Martínez headed home the winning goal in the 90+2nd minute.

Although Messi did not score, he was the decisive player of the match, providing both assists that sent Argentina into another World Cup final.
