Emilio returns to Aruba with new prosthesis after treatment
ORANJESTAD — Emilio van der Linde will return to Aruba on Thursday, September 24, at 2:15 p.m., after receiving a prosthesis and rehabilitation treatment at Shriners Children’s Texas. The Aruba Shriners Club is inviting the community to give him a warm welcome at the airport.
During the New Year celebrations, Emilio was travelling to work when he was struck by a vehicle whose driver, according to the Aruba Shriners Club, was under the influence. As a result of the serious accident, Emilio lost a leg the following day.
The Aruba Shriners Club arranged for him to travel to the United States on June 15. He received a prosthesis and physiotherapy there at no cost to him or his family.
Although his life changed drastically, Emilio persevered and is learning to walk with his new prosthesis. According to the organization, his recovery is progressing rapidly.
The Aruba Shriners Club is calling on the community to gather at the airport at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday to support Emilio as he returns home.
The club operates under Shriners Fort Myers and forms part of Shriners International, whose network of 22 facilities in the United States, Canada and Mexico provides specialized pediatric care regardless of a family’s ability to pay.
