Maersk raises cost of importing containers into Aruba to USD 1,000

ORANJESTAD — Starting October 15, 2026, Maersk will introduce a new USD 1,000 terminal handling charge for every container arriving in Aruba from overseas. Containers shipped from Aruba to destinations worldwide will carry a USD 360 handling charge.

The increase applies to both dry and refrigerated containers and, according to Maersk, is driven by higher port-related and operational costs.

For Aruba, the change is significant because a large share of goods consumed on the island arrives by sea. Higher container handling costs could increase logistics expenses for importers and, depending on how those costs are passed on, could eventually affect consumer prices.

Maersk says the revised tariff structure will take effect on October 15, 2026 and remain in place until further notice.

The new rates are:

Aruba to the rest of the world: USD 360 per container.

Rest of the world to Aruba: USD 1,000 per container.

The rates apply to all dry and reefer containers.
