MEP seeks clarity over possible Afl. 26.1 million extra cost for AZV
ORANJESTAD — The MEP parliamentary faction has questioned Health Minister Mervin Wyatt-Ras about the possible financial impact of regularizing undocumented workers on Aruba’s health insurance system, AZV.
According to an indicative calculation in the Central Bank of Aruba’s Economic Outlook, if around 5,800 regularized workers become newly insured under AZV, annual healthcare costs could increase by about Afl. 26.1 million.
MEP wants to know whether AZV can structurally absorb that cost, who would ultimately cover it, and how the additional expenditure compares with extra income from premiums and other contributions.
The faction is also asking what measures the government is considering to prevent added healthcare costs from putting pressure on AZV and affecting the quality or accessibility of care. MEP expects an answer within three weeks.
