WEB boosts Aruba’s power capacity to 230 MW
ORANJESTAD – WEB Aruba has completed the expansion of its RECIP-3 power plant, increasing generation capacity from 194 MW to 230 MW. The project, representing an investment of approximately Afl. 115 million, was officially delivered on August 19.
Two new RECIP engines and generators supplied by strategic partner Wärtsilä Finland Oy were officially commissioned during a ceremony at WEB. The additional capacity is intended to strengthen the reliability of Aruba’s electricity supply and accommodate continued growth in demand.
The expansion will also allow WEB to replace the mobile power plant that entered service in August 2024 as an emergency measure to reinforce electricity supply.
WEB CEO Alfredo Koolman said the additional firm capacity will not only improve reliability but also provide a stronger foundation for integrating more renewable energy, including wind, solar and battery storage.
To mark completion of the project, WEB, Wärtsilä and UTLT General Contractor each supported local causes, with donations of Afl. 12,500 to Aruba Sport Unie and Afl. 12,500 to Fundacion Ultimo Deseo Aruba.
