CUA postpones internal poll on HOFA

ORANJESTAD – CUA has decided to postpone its planned internal member poll on the proposed HOFA framework while awaiting greater clarity on negotiations between Aruba and the Netherlands.

The decision follows public statements by the Prime Minister that Aruba intends to renegotiate with the Netherlands in an effort to obtain better terms under the proposed HOFA framework.

CUA said that because those negotiations could lead to changes in the current proposal, it would not be in the best interests of its members to ask them to take a position on a document that may still be amended.

According to the organization, members should first have the opportunity to review and assess the most current version of the proposal before being asked to participate in an internal poll.

CUA will continue to closely follow developments and the progress of negotiations between Aruba and the Netherlands. Members will meanwhile be kept informed through the CUA App and by email whenever significant updates become available.

Once there is greater clarity about the outcome of the negotiations, CUA will determine its next steps, including whether to proceed with the member poll.

The decision effectively puts CUA's internal consultation process on hold while the Aruban government seeks changes to the proposed HOFA terms before members are asked to give their position.
