ORANJESTAD – Member of Parliament Rocco Tjon (MEP) has criticized the Government's decision to close the road behind Tierra del Sol, arguing that the measure was taken without an impact study, consultation with stakeholders or the presentation of an alternative plan.

According to Tjon, a letter from the Aruba Offroad Foundation states that approximately 1,000 people could be affected, including small business owners, tour guides, operators and their families who depend on the activity for their livelihoods.

The parliamentarian said his main concern is not only the decision itself but also the process that led to it. He argued that the Government should have consulted stakeholders and assessed the economic consequences before implementing the closure.

Tjon also noted that the Aruba Offroad Foundation had proposed an alternative consisting of a single controlled route with proper supervision, which, according to the organization, would protect nature without eliminating jobs. He said the Government has not yet responded to that proposal.
