Asian Football Confederation joins opposition to FIFA World Cup plan

LONDON – Opposition to FIFA's proposal to sell part of the FIFA World Cup to private investors continues to grow. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has now joined UEFA and CONCACAF in rejecting the plan.

Together, the three confederations control 136 of FIFA's 211 votes, making it increasingly unlikely that the proposal could secure the majority required for approval.

Pressure is also mounting on FIFA President Gianni Infantino. One of his senior advisers resigned, calling the proposal "a bad deal for football," while criticism of FIFA's transparency and decision-making process continues to intensify.

The African confederation (CAF) has yet to take a final position, while CONMEBOL and the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) have not yet announced their stance.
