Pieters (PPA) questions lack of clarity on second phase of education reform

ORANJESTAD – Member of Parliament Eduard Pieters (PPA) says the government has provided little information about Phase Two of Aruba's education reform, particularly regarding the professional development of teachers.

According to Pieters, the government focused heavily on the salary improvements included in Phase One, but it remains unclear how the next stage of the reform will be implemented. He called for a concrete plan covering teacher training, evaluations, guidance and career development.

Pieters argued that higher salaries alone will not improve the quality of education, stressing that teachers also need ongoing support, professional growth opportunities and regular evaluations.

He added that PPA has repeatedly sought information and dialogue with the Minister of Education through Parliament but has not received the level of cooperation it expected.

Pieters also urged the minister to meet with stakeholders, including teachers' organisations SIMAR and SEPPA, as well as school leaders, to discuss the next phase of the reform.
