US imposes new tariffs on Bahamas, Guyana and Trinidad

WASHINGTON – The United States has introduced a new round of tariffs targeting imports from 60 countries, including The Bahamas, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Dominican Republic.
The four Caribbean nations will face a 12.5% tariff on all goods exported to the US, higher than the 10% tariff imposed on many other countries, including the UK, the European Union and China.
According to the Office of the US Trade Representative, the new duties cover 99.4% of all US imports.
Washington says the affected countries have not done enough to enforce bans on products made with forced labour.
The new tariffs took effect early Friday as temporary import measures introduced by President Donald Trump following a US Supreme Court ruling expired.
