ORANJESTAD- The border with Venezuela remains closed until the next meeting scheduled for June according to a press statement issued by the The Aruba government early Friday morning. The meeting was a follow up on the meeting held on April 12th where Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Blok and Venezuelan authorities signed a preliminary agreement clearing the way for normal relations between the countries. Venezuela closed its border with the ABC islands in January, stating contraband trafficking between the countries, harming the Latin American country. The discussions on Thursday were on a technical customs related level. The next meeting is scheduled for June, after which a decision will be taken resulting in Aruba opening its maritime borders with Venezuela. Bonaire and Curacao have already opened their maritime borders with Venezuela under certain conditions and restrictions.
