ORANJESTAD – The fact that Aruba parliament members send in a record number of motions to be discussed, is not a reflection of a bad government. “It doesn’t reflect on the governments plan/program”, Aruba prime minister Evelyn Wever assured NoticiaCla Thursday as her first reaction 12 hours after the budget 2018 passed comfortably. Past prime minister Nelson Oduber criticized the large number of motions saying it doesn’t look good for a government. Wever however considers this a good thing and shows that this parliament is (really) independent with its own voice. “I can’t tell them what to do. If they want to send that many motions, they can do so. Its not a law, its not definite. A motion is a desire. We will consider them and act accordingly,” Wever continued. Earlier parliament president Ady Thijsen confirmed to NoticiaCla that the 85 motions presented was indeed a record.
