Wever: New Windmill Park will not be built at Urirama

ORANJESTAD – The now popular north coast residential area Urirama will no longer be the site for the newly planned windmill park. Aruba energy minister Evelyn Wever Croes confirmed this during the budget talks in Parliament Tuesday morning. “The ROP (Spatial development plan) will not be adapted to accommodate the park at Urirama” Wever argued. Windmill engineers and company must now find another location for this park.
RESISTANCE
The new windmill park plans are almost 5 years old this year, and has encountered a fierce resistance from the surrounding residential areas close to Urirama. Numerous court cases tried to fight the plans, citing numerous reasons, health being the most serious one.
