ORANJESTAD/ DEN HAAG – Aruba will pay its national debt without the help and or need of the Netherlands. Harsh words by Aruba Prime Minister Evelyn Wever Croes Monday, in an unusual response to Dutch lawmaker Andre Bosman. What made the announcement unusual was where it was done; Aruba news website NoticiaCla’s Facebook page. The article on which the island Prime Minister reacted to, was her own previous reaction to the same lawmaker on an earlier comment on ‘ways Aruba could or should spend monies received from future oil or gas drilling’. Bosman suggested the extra income to be used solely for debt cancelation payments. Wever quickly first quickly reacted and set the record straight on that specific subject. “Aruba decides what it does with its earnings. Bosman can decide for the Netherlands. Not here”. That reaction quickly made its way to a NoticiaCla’s article. It was there where, using the facebook platform, where Bosman quickly agreed but added that if Aruba decides, the Dutch should not help Aruba with its debt payment by subscribing in order to get a lower interes payment deal. “Aruba doesn’t and will not use the help of the Netherlands” Wever quickly responded Monday on that unusual Facebook posting. Bosman quickly responded back positively saying only that he is pleased to hear Aruba’s Prime Minister dismiss the help of the Netherlands.
