ORANJESTAD – Infrastructure minister Otmar Oduber wants advice from related government agencies on the development of a hotel project in front of Divi and Eagle Beach. ORANJESTAD – The Aruba CITGO refinery-refurbishing process has a 6 to 9 month delay said Refineria di Aruba CEO and president Alvin Koolman, the refinery owner during NoticiaCla LIVE Facebook show Monday. Koolman remains confident however, that the refinery could still make the October 1st 2020 startup deadline. A delay in startup is ground for a breach of contract says Koolman, although it shouldn’t get that far. Initial planning called for the refurbishing phase to take 18 to 24 months after the refinery takeover documents were signed in October of 2016. With delays announced in two occasions earlier this year, the latest developments further delay the process, Koolman thinks. The refurbishing process is delayed by 6 to 9 months taking us will into 2019 before actual work can began, preparing for the startup on October 1st 2020. Koolman feels positive that even with the latest possible delays, CITGO can still make the October 2020 deadline. .
ORANJESTAD – The recent arrest of the top CITGO petroleum officials in Venezuela hampered the Refineria di Aruba (RDA) loan financing process, its CEO and president Alvin Koolman told to NoticiaCla LIVE’s Facebook show. Koolman hereby confirmed previous statement by Aruba prime minister Evelyn Wever Croes, that the government would not get the pending settlement money as previously promised. Koolman however clarified that the pending money would be paid, but with a delay. Hesitation from local financial institutions wanting ‘assurances’ that CITGO’s monthly lease payments were not in jeopardy is the holdup, Koolman continued. A meeting planned between RDA and CITGO officials this week would clarify any issues pertaining to the matter, Koolman assured this website.
ORANJESTAD – Aruba authorities arrested a 41-year-old Chilean national at the airport as he was trying to flee the country. They caught him with 14 credit cards, 32.757 Dollar and 5000 Chilean pesos. As he had no credible explanation how he obtained the money and credit cards, he was arrested and credit cards were confiscated. The suspect ‘disowned’ the content. The monies collected will be transferred to the so-called criminal funds, used to fortify law and order on the island.
ORANJESTAD – The Aruba maritime police Tuesday rescued a boat and its only crewmember, as he experienced engine problems 500 meters from the harbor. The boat and crewmember were located 45 minutes after the sos call. Boat and crewmember were towed into the yacht harbor at Nautical Club.
ORANJESTAD – A newly installed committee must bring life back into the Aruba main street, officially called Caya Betico Croes. This committee, led by the islands Prime Minister Evelyn Wever Croes, will address all past and current issues, including the stalled OBID organization. It is the intention, according to Wever, to uplift the street with lively shops, food and music and eventual living quarters.
ORANJESTAD – All schools in Aruba will become multilingual by januari 1st 2028, new education minister Rudy Lampe said at the weekly government press conference. It is the government’s intention to start the process by januari 1st 2018, and phase this during the next 10 years. The intention is to simultaneously offer either Dutch or Papiamento as the language of instruction at the schools, depending on their status and structure. Preceding this move, a pilot program implemented at two Aruba schools ran 5 years and passed the test with flying colors, according to Lampe. This was good enough to make the bold move that starts in januari of 2018.
